Some place I have always wanted to visit is J C Slaughter Falls at Mt Cootha. It is not named as some believe according Brisbane urban myths for a gruesome murder. But instead it was named for one of the oldest serving public servant with the Brisbane City Council.
A fall out shelter along the walk |
Now my piece of advice is don’t do the summit track inadvertently … OMG my legs is all I am going to say. There is a viewing platform about halfway done the track. I thought it was a viewing platform for the creek but nope these are the falls. Although nothing was running through the falls at the moment – blah!

But overall it is a great 1 hour walk through the bushland in Mt Cootha. It is a pretty walk as well with a lot of river crossings and you can do this from the Lookout with a track starting from there.

However you do need to be able to walk at a reasonable level of fitness the stairs are quite steep in some places and make sure you have some decent water with you.
Not a lot of water running through here |
But overall just enjoy this little treasure – best enjoyed after some decent rain.
Whoopsies ... ended up doing 3 km |
